While the 2020 Leaving Cert as we know it may have been changed– your goal has not. To achieve your best and get the college course of your dreams. At Yooni, we understand these times have been especially tough on students. With the Leaving Cert changes, it can be an anxious time. That is why Yooni feels it’s doubly important for you to remain calm and focus on the now. What are your options? Are there any opportunities? And most importantly, how can I pick the best course to study?
1. Get peace of mind – and answers
Always remember that the changes to this year’s Leaving Cert were made to keep you safe. Your well-being and success is important to your teachers, principals and future college.
But with everything that’s happening with Covid19, you might be a little confused. What is new? What is the same? What are my options?
The Government has published 'information for leaving certs', it’s a really useful document to read. It explains all the changes, why they happened and how the new system will work.
The biggest change this year is there are no formal exams in June. Instead you will get a predictive grade calculated by your teachers.
Students might worry about predictive grades - it’s important to remember your teachers will always want you to succeed and will use a fair system to calculate these grades.
A Guide to Calculated Grades for Leaving Certificate students 2020helps explain how predictive grades work, and what options you have if you want to appeal a grade.
2. Choosing your college is still so important
Filling out your CAO form remains the exact same. This is why putting that extra time into deciding college courses is important because you will still be putting college courses down in order of preference, and accepting an offer from the CAO system.
Have the dates changed? When will college begin? How can I appeal a grade and how long will I have to wait for this?
You might have lots of questions of how the CAO system will work. The CAO’sFrequently Asked Questions page is a great resource to stay on top of any developments. There is also an option at the bottom to email in your own question if it has not been covered yet.
It’s important to remember operates as usual, opening on the 5th May at noon and closing on the 1st July at 17:15.
3. Focus on what you can control right now
With the exams out of your hands, try not to mull over what if’s – this can make you feel more anxious and it achieves very little. Instead? Focus on the now, and what you can control.
You can control your future. You can control your college choices.
The extra time you’re being given now is a huge opportunity to research the college courses which best suit you. Use this time to really consider all the options for your future. Going through your choices more thoroughly will give you enormous peace of mind in this time of uncertainty
4. Focus on what you can control right now
Yooni is the only service that can statistically determine what courses best suit you academically, based on your chosen predicted grades.
